Electrodiagnostic Testing (EMG/NCV)

Electromyography (EMG) and Nerve Conduction Velocity (NCV) are tests to help your orthopaedic doctor determine how well your muscles and nerves work. EMG is a test that measures the electrical nerve impulses in muscles to identify poor nerve input or poor nerve functioning. NCV measures how well a nerve works and can help specify the site of a nerve injury. EMG and NCV are often performed at the same time to help diagnose nerve compression [ + ] or injury (such as carpal tunnel syndrome), nerve root injury (such as sciatica) or other nerve abnormalities associated with pain or numbness. PRP Therapy

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy is a revolutionary procedure that uses components of the body’s own blood cells to stimulate the natural healing process in certain orthopaedic conditions.
The body’s first response to any soft tissue injury (ligaments and tendons) is to deliver platelet cells filled with healing and growth factors. These platelets jump start the repair process and attract the essential aid of stem cells. [ + ]PRP therapy’s natural healing process accelerates the body’s efforts by delivering a higher concentration of platelets through a simple injection. It provides effective pain relief and faster healing, and it can eliminate the need for surgery and prolonged recovery.

PRP therapy has been shown to decrease the pain associated with acute and chronic tendon and ligament injuries such as partial tears, plantar fasciitis, rotator cuff injuries, anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries, tennis elbow, golfers elbow, tendonitis, strains and sprains. [ - ]

Digital X-rays

For the best image quality, we use the latest high-tech digital X-ray equipment. Digital X-rays are superior to traditional film X-rays because they provide larger, clearer, color-enhanced images that result in a more accurate diagnosis. In addition, the size and shape of the X-ray system allows for faster and easier positioning that can lead to less stress for injured or ill patients. You are also exposed to much less radiation (up to 90% less) than with traditional X-rays.

Durable Medical Equipment /
Custom Orthotics

For your convenience, OAUSA offers a variety of custom braces, splints, and orthotics onsite in both our Miami Lakes and Plantation offices. After your evaluation with the doctor, you will be properly fitted with the brace, splint, or orthotic that best protects you from additional injury.

An orthotic device is an orthopaedic appliance designed to control abnormal motion in the foot and ankle. To create your custom orthotic, one of our [ + ]physical therapists will take a plaster impression of your feet and forward it to an independent lab for fabrication. The orthotic device is made to the exact specifications of your foot. Once returned from the lab, the orthotics are worn in your everyday shoes to alleviate pain associated with your heels, arches, flat feet, ankles and lower back.

Braces and splints are used following surgery or to control pain associated with conditions such as arthritis, tendonitis, and fractures. We carry a wide variety of braces and splints, and we can also custom make one specifically for you.  [ - ]

Health Records

OAUSA utilizes an electronic health records (EHR) system, which makes the practice of medicine more efficient and effective. An EHR has many advantages over its hard-copy counterpart:

  • It keeps all your health records, including prescriptions, in one electronic file, which means your doctor can easily view your entire medical history or quickly find specific information. [ + ]
    • It allows our doctors to generate prescriptions for medication, diagnostic studies, DME, orthotics, therapy and any other required services electronically, so there are no mistakes due to illegible handwriting.
    • It helps coordinate patient care by allowing doctors to view medical records simultaneously.
    • It helps protect the privacy of your health information by restricting who can view your records, as well as limiting the type of information they can view.
    • It helps prevent delays in care due to misplaced or lost records. It keeps all your health records, including prescriptions, in one electronic file, which means your doctor can easily view your entire medical history or quickly find specific information.
